Hi all,
I'm curious how many people do HistNoWriMo since I just found it by way of www.wikiwrimo.org/wiki/List_of_timed_artistic_challenges#January and it looks like all the past posts have been archived so I couldn't tell how active this is, but I might as well find out by introducing myself.
I’m seijitsu, a Japan Region ML for NaNoWriMo. I'm from Los Angeles (I also previously lived in NYC and Princeton), and I’ve been in Japan for 3 years so far, where I adjunct at a Japanese university while being a PhD student at another university. I have my Japanese college students do NaNo in July and November (let me know if you'd like to be in a cabin with or word war with Japanese college students!).
I’ve been writing fiction since I was 6 years old, and noveling with NaNoWriMo since 2012 (I’ve won 6 times and participated 4 other times). One of my favorite parts of NaNo is that it turns writing into a social experience, and we can interact with Wrimos from all over the world (through forums, camp cabins, social media, package swap, etc.). NaNo helps me punch out historical fiction mixed with fantasy, anime fanfic, and academic papers.
My main long-term original novel is a time travel story involving people from the 1st century traveling to modern-day Japan where they are helped/harbored by a Japanese high schooler. At this point, I'm taking a break from it and I am continuing to write/edit my NaNo project from this year, which is a crossover fanfic of Sailor Moon meets the Christmas story of the Biblical magi (a.k.a. the Wisemen). Seiya, Yaten, and Taiki, three scholars from the kingdom of Kinmoku in the East (Yayoi-era Japan) travel toward Bethlehem to research the significance of a bright star in hopes of finding the person they're searching for.
Finally, everyone who knows me quickly finds out that flying squirrels are my favorite animal.
